GINTONG AKLAT AWARDS 2006 GUIDELINES
The prestigious Gintong Aklat Awards, established in 1981, are given out regularly to outstanding book publishers based on the quality of books they produce year after year.
Managed by the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP), the Awards are meant to recognize excellence in bookmaking in the country today. |

Objective
The objective of the Awards is to recognize and encourage the production of quality books that are excellent in all aspects of bookmaking. Specific areas for recognition would include Book Manufacture (printing, binding, etc..), Book Content (writing and editing) and Book Design.
Categories
The Contest has the following categories and books only in these categories shall be entered.
1. Literature
2. Social Science
3. Religion
4. The Arts
5. Natural Science
6. Tradebooks
7. Children’s Books
8. Tagalog Romance Novels
Criteria
Book entries shall be judged based on the following criteria and in the indicated sequence. This means an entry has to pass the first criterion before it can move on to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. An entry must pass production quality first before it can be assessed in terms of book design, and so on, and so forth
1. Quality of Production
2. Book Design
3. Language
4. Content
5. Levels of Contribution
Winners of the Gintong Aklat Awards shall have been judged not only on the merit of their content, but on the totality of, and as, a book.
Eligibility
1. The contest shall be open to all full-fledged Filipino book publishers organized to engage mainly in book publishing.
2. Books published covering only the period from January 2004 to December 2005 shall be eligible.
Awards
1. Grand winner and runner-up awards shall be given in each category.
2. Trophies of recognition shall be awarded to the winners of each category.
3. The Awards will be presented during the Awards Night at the Manila International BookFair on August 30, 2006 at the World Trade Center
Submission of Entries
1. Deadline for the submission of entries is on June 30, 2006.
2. All entries must be submitted to:
National Book Development Board (NBDB)
Ma. Regidor St. Area XI, University of the Phils.
Diliman, Quezon City
c/o Ms. Grace Santos
3. Official entries shall be composed of one (1) copy of the nominated book, together with a properly accomplished Gintong Aklat Entry Form.
4. All book entries shall be donated to the NBDB Library after the contest.
