The 1st Read Philippines Book Fair happened last August 4 to 6, 2006 at Whitlam Library in Cabramatta, Fairfield City, Sydney. The Fair was organized by the Bicolano and Friends Association of Australia (BAFAA), in cooperation with the Fairfield City Council and Libraries, BDAP, and the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney. |

The book fair promoted Philippine cultural awareness through books and multimedia. The first of its kind in Sydney, the book fair gave locals the opportunity to browse Filipino books, CD’s and DVD’s, as well as witness musical numbers and poetry readings. A delegation of BDAP members, led by BDAP president Lirio Sandoval, attended the fair.
Hon. Ambeth Ocampo, Chair of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the National Historical Institute and Fairfield City Mayor Nick Lalich were the guests of honor at the book fair’s inauguration. Ocampo delivered a historical lecture on Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio.
